The 5 Best Fat-Burning Exercises to Tone Up This Spring

Okay, so it’s now the middle of March and I am STILL battling a few extra pounds from the holidays!  I always seem to gain a few pounds around Christmas (no matter how many times I tell myself to lay off the cookies) and each year it seems to take longer and longer to get rid of it.  A few dinners out with friends here and a few lazy Friday nights with pizza there, and by the beginning of March I still haven’t lost the inches I need to.  Finally, I said ‘enough is enough’ and set up a 28-day exercise program that included many of my absolutely favorite exercises for fat burning.

Today I’d like to share with you my top 5 exercises that really help me tone up and burn off that extra holiday weight.  With spring right around the corner and boot camp classes starting soon, I really felt it was time that I get back into a healthy habit.

Here are 5 great exercises to boost your metabolism, build strong muscles and keep torching calories long after you’ve left the gym!

  1. Power Squats
  2. Tuck Jumps
  3. High Knees with a Reach (aka Standing Mountain Climbers)
  4. Push Ups
  5. Plank

Here’s a quick 20-minute fat-burning routine you can do anywhere too!

Warm-Up – perform light exercises like jogging, arm circles and lunges for 3-5 minutes before moving into the workout

Circuit 1 – perform each exercise for 30 seconds each, resting for 30 seconds only after you’ve completed all exercises in the round.  Complete the entire round 3 times.

  1. Power Squats
  2. High Knees with a reach
  3. Tuck Jumps

Circuit 2 – follow the push-up sequence below in order, resting after the sequence is completed; if you can, do another round of this circuit before moving on

12 Push-Ups from your toes

30 Push-Ups from your knees

12 Push-Ups from your toes

15 Triangle Push-Ups

Circuit 3 – perform 3 60-second planks with a 30 second break between each

Cool Down – repeat your light exercises for 3-5 minutes now to bring your heart rate back down
